President’s Press Secretary Meets OSCE Representative on Media Freedom
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Sherzod Asadov, Head of the Communications Department of the Presidential Administration and Press Secretary of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held a meeting with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Bratu, who is visiting Uzbekistan.
During the discussion, it was noted that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the country has significantly strengthened the openness and transparency of state policies, enhanced guarantees for freedom of expression, and created conditions for the independent and professional development of the media.
The parties discussed preparations for the 25th OSCE Central Asian Media Conference, titled “Ensuring Media Viability for Informed and Resilient Societies,” scheduled for 13–14 November in Tashkent. It was emphasized that hosting such a prominent regional platform in Uzbekistan reflects international recognition of the country’s progress in freedom of speech and media development.
The conference will provide a platform to discuss key issues such as media sustainability, professional journalism practices, the economic foundations of the media sector, and the provision of reliable information to society.
The President’s Press Secretary briefed the OSCE representative on ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, including the development of strategic communications, media literacy, and fact-checking, the creation of favorable conditions for foreign and international media, and measures to combat misinformation.
The meeting also covered prospects for further cooperation, including experience sharing, professional development of journalists, joint trainings and educational programs, and participation of leading OSCE experts in events held in Uzbekistan.
Both sides confirmed their readiness to continue an open and constructive dialogue in the interests of fostering free and responsible media.
