Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Review Results of Productive Talks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following high-level talks at the “Kuksaroy” residence, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov, addressed the media, emphasizing the strategic significance of the current state visit.
The President of Uzbekistan noted that the visit marks an important step in strengthening bilateral partnership and will elevate it to a new level. During the negotiations, priority areas of cooperation were identified in political, trade and economic, transport, water and energy, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Particular attention was paid to developing trade and industrial cooperation. Over recent years, bilateral trade has nearly doubled, exceeding one billion dollars. Under the new phase of cooperation, the goal is to increase this figure to two billion dollars, primarily through expanding the range of goods and increasing mutual supplies. In this context, the recently launched “Shavat-Dashoguz” cross-border trade zone plays a key role, with plans to scale its experience to other border areas, including the “Alat-Farab” region.
In transport, both sides were tasked with developing proposals for road, rail, and maritime transport, as well as the joint use of the Turkmenbashi international seaport. Energy cooperation remains a priority, including electricity supply and transit, as well as joint projects on the territories of both countries.
Decisions were made to advance collaboration on environmental protection and efficient water use, including issues of regional significance for Central Asia. Significant attention was given to interregional cooperation: after successful regional forums in Bukhara and Turkmenabad, the third forum, involving all regions of both countries, will be held in Khiva.
The successful Culture Days of Turkmenistan in Urgench and Tashkent were warmly acknowledged. Agreements were reached to regularly hold concerts, theater tours, youth forums, scientific and sports events. Practical cooperation in healthcare and medical science is also set to be intensified.
The Presidents reaffirmed the importance of deepening regional cooperation within the framework of Consultative Meetings of Central Asian Heads of State and Azerbaijan, as well as continuing mutual support within the United Nations and other international platforms.
In conclusion, the leaders of the two brotherly nations expressed their determination to develop cooperation dynamically and achieve breakthrough results for the progress and prosperity of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
