Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

At the start of the conversation, the Uzbek leader warmly congratulated his counterpart on the successful organization of the global conference, noting its special significance during the International Year of Peace and Trust. Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his sincere gratitude for being awarded Turkmenistan’s high state honor — the Order “For Contribution to the Development of Cooperation.”

The two leaders discussed pressing issues related to strengthening Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership, with particular attention given to preparations for upcoming high-level events.

They noted with satisfaction the positive momentum in trade and economic cooperation, highlighting the growth in mutual trade volumes and the active development of cooperation in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, and water management. The importance of interregional ties and humanitarian exchanges was also underlined.

Special attention was given to ensuring the effectiveness of this year’s planned meetings of intergovernmental commissions, the Business Council, the Regional Forum, and cultural events.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on current regional issues, and the leaders agreed on the schedule for upcoming high-level contacts.
