President Visits Upgraded “Aykiron-1” Pumping Station in Namangan Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the “Aykiron-1” pumping station in Chartak District of Namangan Region, located on the Great Namangan Main Canal.
The station provides irrigation for 815 hectares of farmland, but due to worn-out equipment, its efficiency had previously been low, with annual electricity losses reaching six million kilowatt-hours.
Under a public–private partnership, modern energy-efficient units were installed at “Aykiron-1,” reducing electricity consumption by 40 percent. The new equipment delivers higher pumping capacity, which expands irrigation coverage, boosts crop yields, and promotes the rational use of water resources.
Namangan Region operates more than 200 pumping stations, 43 of which have been transferred to the company “Nammotors Suv Ta’minot” for 10 years under PPP principles. About 40 billion soums of investment has been directed toward the modernization of these facilities, alongside the localization of pump unit production.
The President instructed that all pumping stations in the region be modernized within two years, following the “Aykiron-1” model, with a gradual rollout of this practice to other regions of the country. He emphasized that equipment upgrades must be matched with professional operation and sound management, since only reliance on scientific approaches and expertise can ensure high economic returns. Modernization will strengthen food security, increase productivity, and improve living standards.
Additionally, plans are in place to introduce small solar-powered pumps and drip irrigation systems for more than 750 farming households in the region.
