President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Orders Strengthened Oversight and Accountability in Environmental Protection
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 11 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals aimed at improving the efficiency of environmental protection and ecological management.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has implemented large-scale initiatives to protect nature, improve air quality, expand green spaces, and adapt to climate change. However, the current management system remains fragmented, with responsibilities and authority distributed across various agencies, which reduces the effectiveness of ongoing measures.
During the meeting, proposals were discussed to enhance the governance of the environmental sector. In particular, it was suggested to centralize the implementation and funding of environmental projects aimed at improving environmental conditions, developing green zones, raising ecological awareness, and preserving natural heritage under a unified management system. The need to ensure targeted and transparent use of resources was emphasized.
Measures to strengthen environmental oversight and expand the authority of relevant agencies were also reviewed, including mechanisms for rapid response to violations, prevention of illegal logging, air pollution control, and increased public participation in environmental monitoring. Special attention was paid to improving ecological regulation in industry and ensuring the preservation of green spaces in urban areas.
The President approved the presented proposals and instructed that they be further developed to enhance the quality and efficiency of management, strengthen oversight, and increase accountability in the environmental sector.
