President reviews new shopping center in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 March, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the ongoing urban development and beautification efforts in Tashkent.

The favorable conditions created for investors in Uzbekistan are driving private sector growth in the economy. The country continues to attract foreign direct investment, implementing large-scale projects across industry, construction, trade, and services.

One such project is the High Town City complex, built in the Yunusabad district of the capital. This multifunctional facility includes a shopping and entertainment center, business center, hotel, and modern residential complexes. The project attracted $510 million in foreign investment for its construction.

The President inspected the facilities available at the new center. The four-story building houses stores, including boutiques of world-famous brands, restaurants, cafés, entertainment zones, sports facilities, and cinemas. An underground parking lot has also been built.

The complex is designed to accommodate up to 5,000 visitors daily, offering not just shopping opportunities but also comfortable leisure and sports facilities. The project has created 1,500 new jobs.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted the complex’s significance for the economy and the convenience it provides for residents. He reaffirmed that supporting investors and entrepreneurs remains a top priority for government policy. Additionally, he instructed officials to promote national brands and expand their presence in international markets.

A cozy bookstore has also opened inside the shopping center. The President welcomed this initiative and suggested setting up compact bookstores in metro stations and waiting areas to make books more accessible to the public.

During his visit to the children’s play area, the President warmly interacted with children, emphasizing that all current transformations are aimed at shaping the country’s future. He stressed the importance of quality education and the intellectual and creative development of the younger generation.

In the near future, construction will begin on a 24-story, five-star hotel within the complex. The hotel will feature 250 rooms, accommodating up to 430 guests at a time. It will also include modern conference halls, swimming pools, restaurants, and shops.

The President was also briefed on a new residential development project planned for the area. The project includes 28 high-rise buildings with 1,500 apartments. The inner courtyard will be a fully pedestrian-friendly green zone, free of cars. Additional facilities will include a kindergarten, playgrounds, a tennis court, and an underground parking lot. The entire area will have Wi-Fi access, and the buildings will be equipped with silent elevators.

Discussions also covered public transport development, particularly the expansion of the Tashkent metro network.

Previously, plans were in place to extend the Tashkent metro to the Tashkent Tractor Plant. However, the President instructed officials to revise the proposed projects and explore alternative solutions.

Under the revised project, 10 new metro stations will be built from the Buyuk Ipak Yuli station to the Tashkent Tractor Plant. This new line will pass through 30 mahallas (neighborhoods), providing convenient transport access for 148,000 residents.

Additionally, in the Bektemir district, plans are underway to construct high-rise residential complexes, commercial spaces, and service facilities along the Chirchiq River. This initiative aims to accelerate urbanization and establish a new urban center in the area.
