President Reviews Measures to Develop Electrical Engineering Sector and Boost Exports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 October, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation outlining measures aimed at further developing the electrical engineering industry and strengthening the sector’s export potential.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been consistently implementing reforms to modernize the industry and expand production capacities.

The output and export of electrical engineering products have shown steady growth. In the first nine months of this year, production increased by 16.3 percent, reaching 34 trillion soums, while exports totaled 970 million US dollars.

At the same time, significant growth potential remains in the sector. One of the priority tasks is to increase the share of high value-added products, develop deep processing of copper, and diversify export destinations. Currently, about 60 percent of exported copper products consist of high value-added goods.

The presentation reviewed proposals aimed at promoting deeper processing of raw materials and supporting domestic manufacturers. Measures include discounts on raw material purchases, partial government compensation for loan interest rates exceeding five percent, as well as tax and customs incentives.

The need for active development in high-tech areas, including electronics and the semiconductor industry, was emphasized.

According to forecasts, copper production in the country is expected to reach 250,000 tons in the coming years and 500,000 tons by 2030. On this basis, new projects are planned to produce high value-added products, including servers, industrial electronics, air conditioners, solar panels, control and measurement instruments, automation systems, and smart cards.

The sector has formed a portfolio of 157 projects with a total value of 2.1 billion dollars, the implementation of which is expected to create around 14,500 new jobs.

Special attention was given to the development of electrical engineering technology parks in the regions. Opportunities for promoting Uzbek products in international markets are expanding. The Uzbek Institute of Standards has been accepted as a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission assessment scheme, ensuring that certificates issued by domestic manufacturers are recognized in 53 countries worldwide.

Additionally, the Agency for Technical Regulation, together with European partners, is implementing a conformity assessment system that allows Uzbek products to receive the CE mark, confirming compliance with European Union standards. This is expected to at least double exports to European markets.

The President issued specific directives to accelerate the implementation of planned projects, ensure stable export growth, and actively enter new foreign markets.
