President reviews development of Iyikota Mahalla in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Bektemir district of Tashkent, where he inspected ongoing urban development and improvement projects in Iyikota mahalla.
Home to approximately 6,000 residents, the mahalla consists of 37 apartment buildings and 1,400 individual houses. As part of Uzbekistan’s nationwide mahalla development program, the area has seen the construction of new housing, road and sidewalk repairs, courtyard renovations, and enhanced green spaces.
A three-story mahalla administration building was constructed last year, and in 2024, a new public school, No. 358, was opened with state funding. The president toured this modern educational institution, which accommodates nearly 1,000 students and features state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, a foreign language center, a robotics club, and a library. The school also boasts a large sports hall, a football field, and a cafeteria, ensuring a comprehensive learning environment.
During discussions with teachers, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of nurturing students’ potential, expanding vocational education, and preparing young people for independent life. Special attention was given to developing IT, engineering, and robotics programs and instilling patriotism among the younger generation.
Additionally, two private kindergartens were opened on the ground floors of newly built apartment buildings, providing a welcomed gift to families in celebration of Navruz.
To enhance employment opportunities, the mahalla follows a self-sufficiency approach, utilizing local resources for economic growth. Currently, it hosts 70 trade and service businesses, as well as two manufacturing enterprises, which are actively creating new jobs.
As part of a month-long community improvement initiative, launched on the President’s directive, residents are engaging in urban farming, using their household plots to cultivate agricultural crops efficiently.
