President of Uzbekistan Signs Decree Pardoning 615 Prisoners
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree “On pardoning a group of individuals serving sentences who have sincerely repented of their actions and firmly taken the path of reform,” issued on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The press service of the head of state announced the news.
According to the document, 615 individuals convicted of various crimes and demonstrating repentance and a commitment to rehabilitation have been pardoned.
Of these, 220 have been fully released from serving the remainder of their primary sentence, and 123 have been granted early conditional release.
For 97 individuals, their sentences have been replaced with more lenient ones, while the prison terms of 175 convicts have been reduced.
Among those pardoned are 9 foreign citizens, 29 women, 23 men over the age of 60, and 264 individuals under the age of 30, including two minors.
The decree also applies to 9 individuals previously involved in the activities of banned organizations.
The responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to ensure the reintegration of pardoned individuals into their families, assist in their social adaptation and employment, and promote healthy lifestyles and full integration into society, the press service noted.
