President of Uzbekistan Reviews Work of "Homestead Farming School" in Termez

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During his visit to Surkhandarya Region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Homestead Farming School in Termez district, where he familiarized himself with the institution's activities and the innovations being introduced in the agricultural sphere.

The head of state began his visit with a presentation on locally produced water management machinery and equipment. It was noted that domestically developed water-saving technologies and modern irrigation systems help reduce costs, enable the rational use of water resources in the context of climate change, and promptly meet the needs of farmers and the population. The President stressed the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation and devoting greater attention to the development of this area.

The Homestead Farming School specializes in teaching the public how to make effective use of their own household plots, introduce high-yield crops, and apply modern methods of processing, storage, and packaging of produce. The institution provides practical assistance to unemployed and low-income families, creating a stable source of income by integrating scientific knowledge and modern crop cultivation technologies with hands-on farming skills.

The school covers the Termez, Muzrabad, Qiziriq, Bandikhan, Angor, and Jarkurgan districts. Its facilities include a teaching building, a greenhouse, and a training and experimental plot, each spanning three hectares. The greenhouse grows bananas, papaya, rosemary, lavender, lemons, figs, broccoli, bell peppers, and other crops adapted to the conditions of Surkhandarya Region. Seedling production for trees and flowers is also organized on site, and a drip irrigation system has been installed.

Scientists, specialists, and experienced farmers are involved in the educational process. Students learn the practice of harvesting three crops per year, while partner companies such as Agrostar supply seeds and seedlings and arrange the purchase of the produce grown.

To date, around 1,300 unemployed and low-income families have completed courses and become self-employed, making effective use of their own or rented plots. Up to 220 plot owners are enrolled in training each month, enabling up to 2,700 people to be reached annually.

The President reviewed the practice of harvesting three crops from a household plot, along with presentations on industrialized orchards and water-saving technologies. In a conversation with entrepreneurs engaged in the processing and export of fruit and vegetables, the head of state emphasized the importance of expanding processing capacity, creating added value, and developing new crops for the regions, including citrus and tropical fruits.
