Uzbek leader underlined with satisfaction on strengthening constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation of Uzbekistan with the UN, its structures and institutions.
The UN Special Rapporteur praised the new stage of transformations and reforms in development of civil society, ensuring tolerance and religious freedom, protecting the rights of believers and preventing their discrimination, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
He particularly noted the relevance and timeliness of the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan, voiced at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
In particular, the UN official fully supported proposal to adopt a special resolution on “Education and Religious Tolerance”, as well as establishment of the Imam Bukhari International Research Center in Samarkand and the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent.
The sides discussed issues of improving legislation on freedom of conscience and religious organizations, coordinated measures and joint activities in the sphere of religion and interethnic relations.
