President of Uzbekistan Notes Progress in WTO Accession Process
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
During the discussion, the parties addressed key issues related to strengthening practical cooperation in the context of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
Satisfaction was expressed with the dynamics of the negotiation process with the organization’s member states, and the importance of harmonizing national legislation with international standards and rules was emphasized, including in the areas of technical regulation and food security.
Particular attention was given to ensuring the effectiveness of the upcoming meeting of the Working Group scheduled for November this year, as well as to adopting concrete measures aimed at completing negotiations and securing Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO in 2026.
