President of Uzbekistan Meets with Mayor of Nara

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During his official visit to Japan, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Gen Nakagawa, the Mayor of Nara. The discussion focused on further developing interregional cooperation, with a particular emphasis on strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.

Special attention was given to the historical significance of the sister-city relationship between Samarkand and Nara. The meeting highlighted the deep historical connection between the two cities: Samarkand has served as a major hub on the Great Silk Road for centuries, while Nara acted as the eastern gateway, facilitating international trade, knowledge exchange, and building strong cultural bridges between civilizations.

The parties noted the importance of preparing a large-scale archaeological exhibition on the culture and history of Uzbekistan, which will be presented at the National Museum of Nara in 2027 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. As a symbol of friendship and cultural closeness, Mayor Nakagawa announced the decision to name one of Nara’s new parks after the city of Samarkand.

The meeting also addressed the active development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the sister cities, including joint projects in agriculture, tourism, textile industry, transport, logistics, and urban planning.
