President of Uzbekistan Meets with Citigroup Head

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of his official visit to New York, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the head of Citigroup.

At the start of the meeting, the President extended his congratulations to the Citigroup leadership on the successful transformation of the corporation’s operations aimed at supporting global financial stability and development. In turn, the Citigroup leadership highly commended the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan under the “New Uzbekistan” initiative.

The discussion focused on further expanding strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Citigroup. Both sides noted with satisfaction the high level of interaction over recent years, particularly in supporting priority financial programs and investment projects.

Uzbekistan is one of Citigroup’s key partners in Central Asia and the broader region. Joint initiatives have already resulted in significant investment portfolios, while the establishment of a regional Citigroup office in Tashkent is expected to further facilitate collaboration.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of focusing partnership efforts on ensuring sustainable economic growth and the efficient, high-quality implementation of projects. Priority areas include poverty reduction, job creation for women and youth, comprehensive regional development based on the “Model Mahalla” approach, development of rural infrastructure, expanded support for the private sector, expert assistance in privatization of state assets, implementation of the economic decarbonization strategy, and transformation of the financial sector.

The meeting also highlighted the crucial role of Citigroup in promoting strategic infrastructure and investment projects across Central Asia.
