President of Uzbekistan Meets Members of the Parliamentary Friendship League
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Taro Aso, Vice President of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship League with Uzbekistan, who also serves as head of the Friendship League with Central Asian countries.
Members of the League also attended the meeting, during which key issues concerning the further development of strategic Uzbekistan–Japan relations were discussed, including parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The contribution of the Friendship League, and particularly its chairman Taro Aso, to strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan was highly appreciated. The importance of expanding interparliamentary contacts and enhancing the role of parliamentary “friendship groups” in implementing joint initiatives was also emphasized.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to hold the next Interparliamentary Forum in Uzbekistan in 2026.
The Friendship League with Uzbekistan was established in 2002 and currently includes more than 40 members, comprising prominent Japanese political figures, respected lawmakers, and diplomats.
