President of Uzbekistan Meets Japan’s Minister of Economy in Tokyo
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 December, as part of his official visit to Tokyo, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Ryosei Akazawa, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further strengthening strategic Uzbekistan–Japan relations, expanding trade and investment cooperation, and promoting joint projects.
President Mirziyoyev expressed satisfaction with the dynamic growth of Japanese direct investments in Uzbekistan’s economy. In recent years, the number of joint ventures has increased tenfold, and the total portfolio of ongoing projects has exceeded US$20 billion.
Special attention was given to the development of trade and investment ties, as well as deepening industrial cooperation in areas such as alternative energy, decarbonization, critical raw materials, and other sectors.
The importance of establishing an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation at the ministerial level was emphasized to coordinate joint programs and projects.
An agreement was reached to develop an action program for further strengthening business relations with active participation from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Association for Trade with CIS Countries (ROTOBO).
