President of Uzbekistan Meets China’s Foreign Minister
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 21 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the People’s Republic of China led by Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, who arrived in the country to participate in the next session of the strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of the two states.
The meeting focused on practical aspects of further deepening the Uzbekistan–China comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era and expanding multifaceted cooperation, including the implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level. At the beginning of the talks, the Chinese Foreign Minister conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the warm greetings and best wishes of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
It was noted with particular satisfaction that, thanks to the political will and joint efforts of the leaders of both countries, bilateral relations have reached an unprecedented level. In 2024, trade turnover between the two states amounted to US$14 billion, the number of joint ventures reached around 5,000, and since the beginning of this year nearly US$15 billion in Chinese investment has been utilized. The portfolio of technological cooperation projects exceeded US$90 billion.
The sides discussed ways to actively advance cooperation in high technologies, green and nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, transport and infrastructure, agriculture, geology, the chemical industry and other sectors. They noted the active engagement at all levels, effective cooperation between the regions of the two countries, and ongoing educational, cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need for thorough preparation for upcoming high-level events and for giving bilateral cooperation new practical substance. Special attention was devoted to the implementation of the Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan–China railway project and its integration with other transport corridors.
The meeting also addressed coordination of efforts for Afghanistan’s socioeconomic recovery, security issues, continued political dialogue and cooperation in multilateral formats, as well as support for inter-university partnerships, poverty reduction initiatives, tourism development and other areas.
Both sides expressed confidence in the successful holding of the Days of Chinese Culture in Uzbekistan at the end of November. They also exchanged views on current international and regional issues.
