President of Uzbekistan Holds Talks with Franklin Templeton CEO on State Enterprise Transformation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of his business program in New York, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with Jenny Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Franklin Templeton.

The meeting focused on further expanding strategic partnership with the company, aimed at developing Uzbekistan’s corporate governance system.

Franklin Templeton is one of the world’s largest investment firms, managing assets exceeding USD 1.6 trillion and operating over 100 offices in 30 countries. The company’s market capitalization exceeds USD 12 billion.

Through cooperation with Franklin Templeton, a joint investment fund has been established, and work is underway on transforming strategic state-owned enterprises and facilitating their access to global capital markets. An agreement was reached on expert support for enhancing the capabilities of the Tashkent Stock Exchange, including strengthening the independence and transparency of the regulator, establishing mechanisms to protect investor rights, attracting major international custodians, and implementing digital platforms.

Particular attention was given to programs aimed at improving the efficiency of large state-owned enterprises and preparing them for IPOs, transforming state enterprises with a focus on enhancing human capital, adopting “green” economy standards, and increasing operational efficiency.

The parties also emphasized the importance of thorough preparation for Investor Day, which will take place in October 2025 in Tashkent.
