President of Uzbekistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia agree to launch a period of innovative development in their partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 February, negotiations took place at the "Perdana Putra" government complex in Kuala Lumpur between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim in a narrow format with the participation of official delegations.
At the start of the conversation, the President of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and congratulated the Malaysian Prime Minister on the successes of the state strategy "Madani." The sides discussed further expanding Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation, noting that Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Tashkent last year was an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.
The discussions highlighted the intensification of political dialogue, an increase in trade turnover, a rise in the number of joint ventures and air routes. Prior to the visit, there were meetings with analytical centers, presentations on Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, and a forum for university rectors.
To coordinate cooperation, a Strategic Dialogue Platform of foreign ministers was established. The idea of signing a Preferential Trade Agreement and adopting an Industrial Cooperation Program was supported. Malaysia actively supports Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
The leaders agreed to designate the years 2025-2026 as a period of innovative development in the Uzbek-Malaysian partnership. Priority areas of cooperation include petrochemicals, electronics, smart agriculture, green energy, and pilgrimage tourism. A special economic zone will be established in Tashkent region, managed by a Malaysian company.
The sides agreed on the importance of intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchanges, conducting mutual Culture Weeks, and deepening cooperation in the field of security. Following the talks, it was decided to prepare a "roadmap" for the implementation of the agreements.
At the end of the meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Anwar Ibrahim to visit Uzbekistan on an official visit.
