President of Uzbekistan and IMF Managing Director Discuss Expansion of Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22 September, in New York, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The talks focused on current issues related to expanding cooperation with the IMF, one of the leading global financial organizations.

Kristalina Georgieva highly praised the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and reaffirmed support for the country’s course toward deepening irreversible changes under the “New Uzbekistan” concept.

The meeting noted with satisfaction the effective collaboration with the Fund in improving macroeconomic policy, as well as budgetary and tax administration. Regular participation of Uzbek specialists in IMF training programs contributes to strengthening the country’s human capital.

This year, a joint assessment of the financial sector’s resilience was conducted, and a corresponding “roadmap” was approved.

As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on further expert support from the IMF in developing monetary and fiscal policy, transforming the national statistics system, and expanding training programs for employees of Uzbekistan’s economic agencies.
