Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Yunusabad Gallery trade and business center in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent.
The complex spans 2.5 hectares and includes over 53,000 square meters of retail and commercial space. Thanks to foreign investments totaling US$14 million, several international brands operate in the center.
Yunusabad Gallery houses more than 100 retail outlets, has created around 500 jobs, and is expected to attract up to 2.5 million visitors annually. The architectural and design concept of the complex, valued at US$43 million, recently won first place in an international architecture competition among CIS countries.
During the visit, the President also toured the on-site bookstore, engaging with publishers and young people. Special attention was given to the development of the publishing sector, promotion of reading culture from an early age, expansion of scientific and literary publications, and support for domestic publishers.
President Mirziyoyev held an open discussion with local leaders, members of the older generation, and youth. He emphasized that the country’s achievements are the result of peace and social cohesion, with local communities (“mahallas”) serving as the foundation for citizens’ well-being.
The President also visited the IT company Unicon-Soft, located in the center. Founded in 2017, the company has developed and implemented more than 70 information systems nationwide. With branches in all regions and 208 districts, the company employs over 1,500 people, 80% of whom are young specialists. Its priorities include developing new software and technical solutions, digitalizing customs processes, and implementing the “Digital Mahalla” platform.
During the presentation of the company’s projects, the President provided guidance on advancing domestic IT products, enhancing youth competencies in artificial intelligence, and accelerating digitalization across government agencies.
Additionally, the President inspected improvements along Rikhsiliy Street in Yunusabad. On this two-kilometer stretch, engineering and transport infrastructure have been completely upgraded, 24-hour stores, restaurants, and entertainment facilities have been introduced, creating 650 jobs.
The street handles around 35,000 vehicles daily. For residents’ safety and convenience, 39,000 square meters of pedestrian walkways have been built, nearly 100 surveillance cameras installed, and 10 emergency call points established.
