President Inspects Construction Works at Namangan Airport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 September, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Namangan region to review the progress of regional development and the living conditions of the local population.
Particular attention was focused on the reconstruction and modernization of Namangan Airport, where new state-of-the-art terminals are being built with US$140 million in investments. The project, first presented during the President’s visit to the region last year, is being implemented at an accelerated pace due to growing passenger traffic, which the airport’s current capacity can no longer accommodate.
The new three-story passenger terminal will increase capacity by 2.5 times. It will feature modern border control and visa facilities, a business lounge, retail and public areas, a medical station, and duty-free shops. At the same time, a major cargo terminal is being developed, designed to handle up to 50 tons of cargo per day with exports to 90 countries. This facility will form the basis of a unified cargo system for the Ferghana Valley and significantly enhance the region’s export and transit potential.
This year, Namangan region expects to attract 1.5 million foreign and more than 2 million domestic tourists, while export services are projected to reach US$210 million. Export activity is also increasing in the neighboring Andijan and Ferghana regions. To strengthen the airport’s capacity, the fleet of specialized equipment is being renewed, and construction is underway on a catering complex, a fuel station, and other infrastructure facilities. Completion of the new terminals is scheduled for next year.
The President stressed the importance of comprehensive development of the area surrounding the airport. He instructed that modern hotels, shopping and entertainment centers, and a full range of supporting services be established. Special emphasis was placed on creating convenient parking and service facilities to ensure a comfortable experience for visitors in line with the best international standards.
