President abolishes excise tax for imported meat and flour

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev abolished an excise tax on certain imported foodstuffs from 1 September 2017.

On 15 August, Uzbek President signed a resolution “On measures to further ordering foreign economic activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

According to the document, from 1 September 2017, Uzbekistan abolish excise taxation for imported meat and edible meat by-products, poultry fat, pork fat, wheat flour and other products used for animal feeding.

At the same time, from 1 September 2017, the current rates of customs payments for certain types of goods will be reduced, including:

  • customs duty for meat of cattle, pork, pork fat, poultry fat and other edible meat by-products, coffee, wheat flour, cane sugar;
  • excise tax on sunflower oil, cane sugar and coffee.

Uzbek President also introduced a zero rate of customs duty on certain products from 1 September 2017.

In particular, entrepreneurs can import at a zero customs duty rate such products as cream, soybean and sunflower oils, rye flour, cereals and coarse wheat flour, cane sugar, cocoa beans, raw materials, used in pharmaceuticals, some products for feeding animals.

Zero rate will also apply to import of seed material (potatoes, wheat, olives, rye, barley, oats, corn, grain sorghum, buckwheat, millet, soybeans, flax, sunflower, etc.).

The decision is directed at stimulating domestic producers, reducing the cost of manufactured products and increase their competitiveness. Reduction of customs payments will also limit prerequisites for price growth in the domestic consumer market.
