Presentation of investment potential of Surkhandarya region takes place in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 October, a presentation of the investment potential of Surkhandarya region was organized for representatives of foreign embassies accredited in Uzbekistan, foreign investors and businessmen of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.
The event was organized by the khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region, the Accounting Chamber of Uzbekistan, with the support of the State Investment Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event opened with the presentation of a video dedicated to the tourism potential of Surkhandarya region.
Surkhandarya is one of the most ancient cultural centers of Uzbekistan, distinguished by the peculiarity of historical development. The former capital of the Greco-Bactria and Kushan empires was located at the intersection of key trade routes. Today Surkhandarya is the successor of the ancient traditions, the keeper of the unique monuments of material and spiritual culture and folk art. The state provides comprehensive support, creating favorable conditions for supporting the creative dynasties of Surkhandarya.
Special climatic conditions, a variety of landscapes of the Surkhan oasis creates favorable opportunities for development of the tourism sector in the region, creating mountain tourism clusters, where, within the framework of investment projects, new hotels, recreational facilities, shopping and entertainment and other tourist facilities with modern engineering infrastructure can be built.
Further, a prepared presentation from the khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region “Investment and export potential of the Surkhandarya region” was presented.
The geographical position of Surkhandarya region on the border with 3 states: Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, provides ample opportunities for the provision of logistics services.
At the end of 2017, the export center “Termiz Cargo” was established, organized on the basis of the international logistics center “Termiz Cargo Center” in Surkhandarya region. The total area of the terminal is 40.7 hectares. On the territory of the terminal, there are 4 covered hangars with an area of 6,000 square meters. m., one of which is equipped with refrigeration units for storage of 3.5 thousand tons of perishable products at a temperature range from +5 to -20 degrees.
Much attention was paid to the agricultural sector: a variety of vegetables and fruits are grown, subsequently exported. So, according to the latest data, 221,9 tons of agricultural products were exported to neighboring countries, of which: 27.5 tons of melons, 21,4 tons of grapes, 35,9 tons of various fruits, 104 tons of vegetables , legumes - 22,3 tons.
On the territory of Surkhandarya region, raw silk is produced and processed, with the preparation of cocoons about 1600 tons per year. 2 silk enterprises are operating for export.
There are 45 mineral deposits in the region: quarts, dolomite, hard coal, red sandstone and other minerals are mined.
In order to strengthen the economic development and investment potential of the region, on 18 September 2018, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a new territory - 3000 hectares of Termez FEZ was added to the free economic zone map.
The objectives of the creation of the Termez free economic zone are to create conditions for improving trade and transport and logistics relations with neighboring countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, ensuring the safety of international transport of goods and expanding the transit potential of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The participants also got acquainted with the opportunities for foreign investors and entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan, created in the framework of the pharmaceutical FEZ “Boysun-farm”. On the territory of Surkhandarya region, more than 1,646 plant species are found, 150 of which are valuable medicinal plants.
