Legislative Chamber passes law “On combating corruption” in second reading

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law “On combating corruption” in second reading.
Interim President Shavkat Mirziyayev submitted the draft law to the Legislative Chamber as the legislative initiative.
The document is directed at complex legislative regulation of legal relations in fighting corruption, improving efficiency of anti-corruption measures, conducted by the state bodies, organizations and institutes of civil society, as well as fully elimination of corruption from all spheres of public life, creating intolerance to corruption among public via improving legal awareness and legal culture.
The law sets main principles and directions of state policy on fighting corruption, system of authorized bodies, participation of self-governing bodies and civil society institutes, mass media and citizens in the process, as well as international cooperation in the sphere.
The law envisages creation of Republican inter-departmental commission on combating corruption, which will coordinate activities on fighting corruption and strengthen cooperation between various bodies. It will include representatives of public businesses unions and other institutes of civil society.
It was noted that adoption of the document will create necessary legal guarantees on protecting rights and freedoms of the citizens and allow to prevent illegal encroachment on private property, illegal interference to activities of businesses and help to growth of entrepreneurship activities and investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.
After discussions, the MPs passed the law, which will be directed to the Senate for approval.
