Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Two aircraft narrowly avoided a midair collision over Shymkent. The incident occurred on the morning of 10 January 2026, when two foreign-operated flights came dangerously close to each other.

One of the aircraft was a Boeing 737 operated by Pobeda Airlines, flying from Moscow (Vnukovo) to Samarkand. The other was an Airbus A320 of Uzbekistan Airways en route from Termez to Moscow.

At the moment of the hazardous proximity, both aircraft were within the area of responsibility of Shymkent air traffic controllers.

“This event has been classified as a serious aviation incident in accordance with civil aviation regulations and is subject to investigation by the competent authority,” the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Department stated.

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan has established a commission to investigate the incident.

The investigation period, starting from the date of issuance of the relevant order, typically does not exceed three months unless additional studies or work are required.
