Photo Exhibition on George Enescu to Open in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On Wednesday, 1 April 2026, at 17:00, the “Academy” gallery of the Uzbekistan Academy of Arts will host a photo exhibition titled “George Enescu in France.” The event is organized by the Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan and the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, with support from the French Alliance of Tashkent.

The exhibition will feature photographs highlighting key moments in the life of George Enescu, the renowned 20th-century Romanian musician, composer, conductor, and teacher, during his time in France. Romanian Ambassador Daniel Cristian Ciobanu emphasized that the opening symbolizes the friendship between Romania and Uzbekistan.

The event is part of the celebration of Francophonie in Uzbekistan. Previously, on March 25, 2026, a Romanian-French poetry evening was held in Tashkent dedicated to poet Gerasim Luke, and on March 26, Romania presented its national stand at the Francophonie embassy exhibition.

George Enescu (1881–1955) is considered Romania’s greatest composer. He was a violinist, pianist, conductor, and teacher, beginning violin studies at age four and later training at the Vienna and Paris conservatories. His most famous works include the Romanian Rhapsodies and Symphony No. 1, blending French influences with Romanian folk motifs and reflecting ties to the Romanian royal family.

The Uzbek public has previously explored Enescu’s work through exhibitions in 2022 and 2024. The new exhibition will highlight his activities in France.

The exhibition will run from 1 to 8 April 2026, with free entry. Bilateral relations between Romania and Uzbekistan continue to grow, with 2025 marking a record year for trade, increasing by 359.9% compared to 2020–2025, according to the National Statistics Committee.
