People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Yakub Akhmedov Passes Away
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the age of 87, the distinguished artist, People’s Artist of Uzbekistan, State Prize laureate, and actor of theater, cinema, and dubbing Yakub Akhmedov has passed away, the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater announced.
Yakub Akhmedov graduated from the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute named after A. N. Ostrovsky (now the State Institute of Arts and Culture of Uzbekistan) in 1959. He began his artistic career in 1958 on the stage of the Hamza Uzbek Academic Drama Theater in Tashkent, where he later served as director for over 20 years.
Throughout his multifaceted career, Akhmedov played dozens of memorable roles, including in well-known films such as Past Days, The Adventures of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Distant Close Years, and The Battle of Three Kings. He also made a significant contribution to dubbing, voicing more than 400 films in Uzbek.
For his outstanding contributions to national art, Yakub Akhmedov was awarded several high state honors, including the Order of “Dustlik” (1997), the Medal of “Labor Valor” (2005), and the Order “For Selfless Service” (2018).
The memory of Yakub Akhmedov—a man of great soul and a true master of the stage—will forever remain in the hearts of his colleagues and audiences.
