PDPU holds seminar on openness of state bodies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) and its faction in Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held a seminar “Ensuring openness of the activities of the state bodies and administration – fundamental free civil society” in Tashkent on 14 May 2014.

Representatives of the party, MPs of the Legislative Chamber, politicians and legal experts, youth and mass media attended the event.

The event was aimed at improving political and legal culture of population via promoting newly adopted law “On openness of the activities of the state bodies and administration”.

The law was signed into a law on 4 May 2014 and envisages developing legislative act for ensuring free access of the citizens and business to information on activities of the state bodies.

PDPU believes that the law will ensure openness and transparency of the activities of the state bodies and improve knowledge of information on reforms in Uzbekistan. The population and businesses will also have access to legal documents. The law creates foundations to ensure openness and transparency of the state bodies, in particular in hiring employees.

The law stipulates that the official websites of the state bodies will have special section for complains and proposals of the population and entrepreneurs.

The document also clearly sets sources of information on activities of the state bodies, which could be official publications, statements of officials or the press services, etc.

The participants exchanged opinion on methods and effective tools to promote the law among population during the event. It was said that its implementation will improve awareness of population on their rights and interests, reforms in the country.

The party members also received information on such terms as appeals and requests, processing of appeals, as well as rights of the information users.

The party adopted recommendations on boosting propaganda work.
