Parliamentary Committees to Receive Expanded Powers to Monitor Law and State Program Implementation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a Senate legislative initiative was reviewed, aimed at further strengthening the foundations of parliamentary oversight.
The document proposes amendments to the Constitutional Law “On the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” which formalize the powers of Senate committees to hear information from government agencies and their officials regarding compliance with the Constitution, laws, and state programs.
Amendments are also being introduced to the Law “On the Status of a Deputy of the Legislative Chamber and a Member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” granting deputies and senators the right to propose the hearing of reports or information from accountable agencies and officials not only during plenary sessions but also in committee meetings of which they are members.
Corresponding changes are included in the Law “On Parliamentary Oversight,” clearly defining the powers of committees in both chambers to review information from state bodies and their officials on adherence to the Constitution and laws, implementation of resolutions of the Oliy Majlis and its bodies, execution of state programs, and fulfillment of assigned tasks.
The draft law also specifies the participation of Cabinet of Ministers leaders in committee hearings, ensuring direct parliamentary oversight over executive activities.
Following review, the legislative initiative was approved.
