Parliamentarians of Uzbekistan and Germany discuss promising areas of cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 October, 2018, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism Alisher Kurmanov met with a delegation of the Germany-Central Asia parliamentary group of the Bundestag led by its chairman Manfred Grund.
German side was informed about the main priorities of the Development Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017–2021, and consistent work to strengthen the legislative foundations of the reforms carried out within its framework.
The parties discussed promising areas of Uzbek-German relations, including inter-parliamentary cooperation. The parliamentarians stated a trusting dialogue, mutual understanding and interest of both parties in the development of cooperation, which are the basis of the political relations between Uzbekistan and Germany.
It was noted that the “International Parliamentary Fellowship” program of the German Bundestag is being implemented, which provides for the goals of familiarizing prospective personnel from partner countries with parliamentary activities in the Federal Republic of Germany and promoting the expansion of inter-parliamentary ties. About 120 scholarships are distributed annually for practical training in the Bundestag. Currently, participants in this program are representatives from more than 40 countries. In October of this year, the Bundestag decided to include Uzbekistan in this program.
The prospects for Germany’s participation in the implementation of industrial-innovative development programs in Uzbekistan, as well as the possibility of organizing high-tech joint ventures, were discussed. It was emphasized that Germany is one of the leading trade, economic and investment partners of our country in the European Union. In continuation of the theme of strengthening trade and economic relations, the need to more fully utilize the existing potential of the two countries was noted.
The sides also discussed topical issues of the international agenda and bilateral cooperation, including the prospects for the development of mutually beneficial relations of the Central Asian countries and ensuring security in the region.
On 31 October 2018, the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis held a meeting with members of the parliamentary group of the German Bundestag on Central Asia.
In the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, in 2016, the Uzbekistan-Germany inter-parliamentary group was established to cooperate with the German Bundestag, which includes 6 deputies representing all party factions. Currently, this group effectively conducts its cooperation activities.
At the meeting of the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis Sarvar Otamuratov with members of the delegation of the German Bundestag, first of all the guests were provided with information on the reforms carried out in all spheres in Uzbekistan.
The conversation focused on the current situation of parliamentary relations between the two countries, the effective use of untapped opportunities in order to further strengthen it.
Also, based on today’s requirements, there was a need to widely use the potential of the parliaments of the two countries to further expand trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany.
In turn, the members of the delegation stated that cooperation with Uzbekistan, which has its place and position in Central Asia, is quite prosperous for Germany, in which the economic partnership is especially beneficial for the two countries.
As the guests noted, participation in the visit to several large industrial enterprises located in the Bukhara and Samarkand regions, operating with the participation of German investments, and this meeting in parliament will serve as an incentive for the further development of relations.
