Parliament Approves Measures Against Illegal Construction and Paving of Green Areas

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 September, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved in its second reading a draft law aimed at strengthening the protection of the environment, as well as animal and plant life, the lower chamber’s press service reported.

The legislation establishes liability for the illegal allocation of forest land and construction of buildings and structures on such land, unauthorized concreting of soil and green areas adjacent to apartment buildings, as well as the installation of various devices and structures on these plots.

The adoption of the law is expected to improve the country’s environmental situation and enhance air quality.

Following approval by the lower chamber, the draft law has been sent to the Senate for consideration.
