Palace, metro station and square to be renamed to “People’s Friendship”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A palace, a metro station and a square in the center of Tashkent will be renamed to “People’s Friendship” on initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It should be mentioned that monument to the family of Shaahmed Shamahmudov is returning to the square.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev made such proposal at the video conference meeting on 26 April 2018.

Uzbek leader said that there are few countries and nations in the world, which can be proud of such high human qualities that the blacksmith Shaahmed Shamakhmudov’s family showed to 14 children during the war.

The President underlined that in order to restore historical justice, to perpetuate these qualities and values, it is fair to return the memorial ensemble "Friendship of Peoples" to the square in the center of Tashkent.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the name Shamakhmudovs will be returned to the street in Shaykhantahur district of Tashkent. He added that the name “People’s Friendship " will be returned to the Istiqlol Palace, the metro station (now the Bunyodkor station) and the square.

The International Press Club said that a flagpole will be installed next to the Shamakhmudov family monument on the People’s Friendship Square.

According to the club, the height of the flagpole will be 50 meters. It is planned to install a flag of Uzbekistan with the size 6 × 9 m.
