Pakistan Intends to Expand Trade and Investment in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Industry and Production, Haroon Akhtar, visited Uzbekistan accompanied by representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan, SIFC, and the Ministry of Industry and Production.

During the visit, Haroon Akhtar held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov. The parties discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including transport connectivity, the banking sector, trade, and commerce. The Special Assistant conveyed greetings from the leadership of Pakistan and emphasized the country’s readiness to promptly commence the Trans-Afghan Railway project.

To facilitate the expansion of trade and simplify banking operations, Pakistan expressed its intention to open a branch of the National Bank of Pakistan in Uzbekistan, as well as to broaden the list of goods covered under the Preferential Trade Agreement. The meeting also addressed prospects for Pakistani investment in Uzbekistan, including in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan warmly welcomed the guest and conveyed greetings to the leadership of Pakistan, highlighting the importance of relations with the neighboring country and providing an overview of progress achieved on key issues of bilateral cooperation.
