Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 July, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree "On additional measures to provide material support to segments of the population in need of assistance and social protection during the coronavirus pandemic."
The decree notes that from the republican budget will be allocated one-time material assistance to over 400 thousand families, whose members are more than 1.7 million people.
The number of families receiving social benefits will be increased from 600,000 to 1.2 million.
The head of Uzbekistan instructed the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to ensure the delivery of one-time financial aid to the families included in the lists by 15 August.
The total amount of aid will be 380 billion soums. One family member accounts for an average of 220,000 soums.
To support 150,000 needy families, 150 billion soums will be allocated from the Kindness and Support Fund in connection with the holiday of Kurban Khayit (1 million soums per family).
150 billion soums are allocated to support the Wakf public charitable foundation under the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan.
Until the end of 2020, an additional 2.5 trillion soums will be allocated from the budget for measures to support the population.
