Over 27,500 HIV-infected people live in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 27,500 HIV-infected people are officialy registered in Uzbekistan, the Republican AIDS Center said.

Jahon news agency reported that in last 5-6 years, Uzbekistan achieved great results in development of anti-AIDS services, which helps to prevent growth of infected people and improve life of people with the infection.

Uzbekistan repaired and equipped republican and regional AIDS centers. All patients are receiving retrovirus therapy.

There are 230 confidence rooms in Uzbekistan, where people can receive consultations on HIV, one-time syringes, individual protection means and materials.

Last year, these rooms provided 127.5 syringes a year per each person, using drugs, disseminated 50,600 information materials and 2.47 million individual protection means.

Uzbekistan implements strategic programme on combating HIV spread in Uzbekistan for 2013-2017. The programme includes six strategic directions.
