Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 April 2026, Tashkent hosted the VIII International Marathon, an event that gathered over 23,000 participants and confirmed its status as one of the country’s premier sporting events. The marathon holds the prestigious international World Athletics Label.

The races commenced at the square in front of the Humo Arena, where thousands of runners set off on various distances. This year, the marathon brought together representatives from more than 30 countries, underscoring its high international standing and growing popularity. Participants competed in the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), as well as 10 km and 5 km races. Children’s races and a Nordic Walking distance were also organized, ensuring participation from professional athletes, amateurs, and families alike.

The event was organized by the ProRun project with the support of the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent City Khokimiyat, the Ministry of Sports, and the National Olympic Committee, alongside various agencies including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard, and the Ministry of Defense.

The conceptual theme for this year’s marathon was the pursuit of new heights and space exploration. The event's symbolism was inspired by national initiatives in space technology, including plans for the launch of the "Mirzo Ulugbek" satellite and the development of the domestic space program. This concept served as a unifying element, reflecting the nation's drive toward innovation and technological advancement.

Special attention was paid to the design of the finisher medals, which combined traditional national patterns with modern visual elements. This approach symbolizes the continuity of cultural traditions alongside a commitment to science, technology, and digitalization.

Today, the Tashkent Marathon is viewed not only as a large-scale sporting event but also as a result of consistent state policy aimed at developing mass sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle. In recent years, Uzbekistan has actively developed its sports infrastructure and expanded the geography of competitions. As a result, the marathon movement in Uzbekistan is becoming increasingly sustainable and widespread, engaging youth, students, and families in a platform for active living and international sporting cooperation.
