Over 20 Kilograms of Marijuana Seized from Local Resident in Chirakchi District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement officers in the Chirakchi district of Kashkadarya region have seized approximately 21 kilograms of marijuana from the home of a 1981-born resident who had previously been convicted twice.
The operation was carried out jointly by the State Security Service (SSS) and the district police department. During the inspection of the suspect’s house, officers found the narcotics packaged in three synthetic bags and officially documented their seizure.
According to the investigation, the man had been cultivating marijuana for sale, seeking to profit from illegal drug distribution.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which covers offenses related to the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, their analogues, or psychotropic substances.
The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention, and if found guilty, faces 10 to 20 years in prison.
Law enforcement agencies emphasized that combating drug trafficking remains a national priority, as more than 400 million people worldwide suffer from drug addiction, and around 300,000 die each year due to the use of illegal substances.
