Over 10,000 Separate Meters Installed for Electric Vehicle Charging in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has implemented a system for installing separate meters for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. As of today, 10,500 such meters have been installed, according to Regional Electric Networks (RES).

Under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 319, each owner of a private electric vehicle receives a separate meter and personal account when a charging station is installed.

As Diyorbek Nishonov of RES explained, the cost of consumed electricity is calculated according to the tariff for consumers in the second tariff group, which currently stands at 1,000 soums per kilowatt-hour.

According to Alvar Gaybullaev, First Deputy Chairman of RES, most charging stations have been installed in the courtyards of private houses and by residents of upper floors in apartment buildings, with the largest numbers in Tashkent and Tashkent Region.

“If electric vehicle owners begin installing chargers near entrances of apartment buildings, it could disrupt the stability of the electricity supply. In many cases, equipment is installed independently, without compliance with technical safety requirements, and at heights accessible to children. To address these issues, a new procedure is being developed,” said Gaybullaev.

Under the new procedure, charging stations will be relocated from residential areas, and the number of specialized EV charging locations will be increased to prevent inconvenience for apartment residents.
