OSCE Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings visits Uzbekistan

Ambassador György Szabó, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, participated at the meeting along with the other officials of the organization, the press-service of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Uzbekistan said.

The OSCE officials were informed about reforms in Uzbekistan in all spheres, including in judicial-legal system.

It was underlined that issues of combating human trafficking are solved in the governmental level.

Uzbekistan joined to main international documents on combating human trafficking and international standards in this area are implemented into national legislation.

The law “On combating human trafficking”, which was adopted in April 2008, set the authorized state body, which regulates activities in this area.

The Republican inter-departmental commission on combating of human trafficking led by the head of the Prosecutor-General’s Office coordinates work in this area. Uzbekistan adopts measures on effectively combating human trafficking and assisting to rehabilitation of the victims of human trafficking.

It was noted that the OSCE Project Coordinator within the joint projects assists to improve activities of the state bodies of Uzbekistan, including in fighting human trafficking. In particular, the OSCE assisted to strengthen potential of the Republican inter-departmental commission on combating of human trafficking through providing equipment to working groups of the commission and resource center of Higher educational courses.

Welcoming efforts of Uzbekistan in combating human trafficking, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro made concrete proposals on further cooperation and expressed readiness of the OSCE to render assistance to Uzbekistan in this direction. She also expressed gratitude for warm welcome.

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed mutual satisfaction with the current dialogue, which will give new stimulus to developing and strengthening legal relations.

Maria Grazia Giammarinaro visited the Republican Rehabilitation Center on rendering aid and protecting human trafficking under the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Population. She familiarized with services, rendered to victims of human trafficking and created conditions for them.

The delegation of the OSCE familiarized with the activity of the Samarkand regional interdepartmental commission on combating human trafficking.
