Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20-21 August 2020, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Oliy Majlis conducted an online training on the topic "Gender equality and gender issues" within the framework of the project Development of civil society to support, protect and empower women in Uzbekistan.
The event was organized in cooperation with a number of international structures, in particular with the French Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED). It was attended by members of the Commission and the Committee, representatives of a number of ministries and departments.
The training was aimed at discussing gender equality, women’s rights and opportunities in Uzbekistan, as well as raising awareness of civil service workers on gender equality issues.
It was noted that today the achievement of gender equality is not only one of the democratic values, but also an important factor in socio-economic and spiritual development. World experience shows that reforms are successfully carried out precisely in countries where equal opportunities for men and women have been created, in addition, in such states, the welfare and socio-political activity of the population is at a high level.
In this regard, the effectiveness of the work carried out in this direction in our country is important. At the same time, first of all, it is important to raise awareness of our compatriots working in the civil service, to change their views on these issues. In this regard, the training comprehensively analyzed the concepts related to gender equality. Also, the participants were informed about the national and international regulations in this area. They also talked about stereotypes, that is, outdated views and concepts that exist in society.
The participants in the training also discussed an interdepartmental approach to providing assistance to victims of violence, social partnership on gender issues and comprehensive support for women.
