Online conference with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 May 2020, an online conversation took place between the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoev and members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan.

The videoconference was attended by over 30 people, including representatives of diplomatic missions, business and international universities, and leaders of leading American law and consulting firms.

The videoconference participants emphasized that in Uzbekistan over the past three years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev a lot of work was done to reform all spheres of life of the state and society. The successes achieved in this direction have contributed to increasing the interest of the international community, in particular business circles, in cooperation with Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the participants were informed in detail about the situation related to quarantine measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Uzbekistan. The emphasis is on the effectiveness of the package of anti-crisis measures to support the population and business during the pandemic carried out by the government.

The program of liberalization of the investment climate in the country and the priorities of trade and economic cooperation with American business is the main topic of discussion. It was especially noted that the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan is actively working to improve the legislative framework and improve the efficiency of regulatory regulation of investment law. Direct action laws adopted in these areas contribute to the improvement of the investment climate and the development of all forms of entrepreneurship in the country.

It was emphasized that over the past year, in the annual report of the World Bank and Doing Business International Finance Corporation, our country has risen by 7 positions with improved indicators such as registration of enterprises, enforcement of contracts, and protection of minority investors. This, in turn, made it possible to get ahead of the progress of a number of developed industrial countries. In this regard, the participants were informed about the formation in the ministries and departments of special working groups to improve the position of Uzbekistan on problematic indicators, such as obtaining building permits, registration of property, etc.

During the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation with the American side on the issue of Uzbekistan’s entry into the WTO were also discussed. In this regard, aspects of further deepening the interaction of the parties in this direction are considered.

This conversation served as a platform where representatives of leading US companies operating in the country were able to put forward a number of proposals aimed at improving the business climate and bilateral cooperation. It is especially important to note that foreign partners raised specific issues taken up by parliamentary control.

The participants noted that such meetings provide an opportunity to bring important information to partners, as well as to maintain a dialogue between lawmakers and international business structures operating in Uzbekistan.
