One of the streets of Tashkent to be renamed into Yakub Kolas Street

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 40th session of the Tashkent City Council of People’s Deputies was held in the capital’s hokimiyat. This was reported by the press service of the khokimiyat of Tashkent.

One of the main issues on the agenda was the renaming of Yakkachinor Street in Tashkent into Yakub Kolas Stree. Kolas wass the great Belarusian writer, poet and public figure.

It should be noted that the bust of Yakub Kolas was opened in Tashkent in August. Kolas lived in Tashkent in 1941-1943.

The bust is behind the building of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan near the intersection of Shakhrisabz and Taras Shevchenko streets. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Nodir Otjanov and Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusy.

Also, the session discussed the issue of awarding the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Tashkent" to the Chairman of the Society of Uzbek-Indian Friendship Anil Kumar Shastri.

In addition, by the decision of the Tashkent City Council of People’s Deputies, the Commission for the Regulation of Weddings, Family Celebrations and Ceremonies was established.

During the session, the powers of a number of deputies of the Tashkent City Council were prematurely terminated. The issue of electing deputies for vacancies was also resolved.
