Ombudsperson receives 11,000 appeals in 2013

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Human Rights Commissionaire of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (Ombudsperson) Sayyora Rashidova presented a report on activities of Ombudsperson for 2013 at the session of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, the press service of lower house of the parliament said.

In her report, Sayyora Rashidova said that activities of Ombudsperson was directed at carrying out measures on strengthening parliamentary and public control over adhering human rights and freedoms by the state bodies and the officials, assisting to improve legislation, etc.

In the reporting periods, Ombudsperson carried out legal expertise of about 15 draft laws on their correspondence to national legislation and international standards in human rights protection sphere.

Interaction of Ombudsperson with Legislative Chamber was directed at holding legal expertise of the draft laws, but also participated in control-analytical activities and exchange of information on monitoring implementation of the laws.

In 2013, Ombudsperson received over 11,000 appeals of the citizens, of which 7,700 were directed to the Central office of Ombudsperson and 1,000 to regional offices. The citizens are also submitting their appeals via email.

About 1,400 citizens were received by Ombudsperson and her staff in 2013. All appeals were considered in line with the legislation of Uzbekistan.

MPs considered the report and approved on activities of the Human Rights Commissionaire of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in 2013 and adopted a corresponding resolution.
