Ombudsman of Uzbekistan Presents 2025 Activity Report to Parliament

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber reviewed the annual report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) for 2025.

In accordance with the Law on the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), the Ombudsman submits a report on their activities to parliament annually by 15 February.

The report highlights the Ombudsman’s key priorities in 2025, including parliamentary oversight of compliance with human rights legislation, improvement of national legislation and the national preventive mechanism, development of international cooperation, and promotion of citizens’ legal awareness and culture.

The report notes a significant increase in the role and importance of the Ombudsman’s institution in monitoring human rights compliance, reviewing citizens’ appeals, and safeguarding the rights of prisoners through regular visits to correctional facilities.

Activities were also conducted to protect citizens’ political, economic, and social rights, strengthen guarantees for their observance, and enhance legal awareness among the population and government bodies.

Deputies emphasized the effectiveness of monitoring aimed at preventing torture and cruel or inhuman treatment, and they praised the quality of the Ombudsman’s initiatives. At the same time, proposals and recommendations were made to further improve the institution’s work, ensure citizens’ constitutional rights, and reinforce the protection of their freedoms.

Following the review, parliament adopted a resolution endorsing the report and formalizing recommendations for the continued development of the Ombudsman’s activities.
