Ombudsman Inspects Conditions of Alisher Tursunov in Colony No. 5 in Navoiy Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The regional representative of the Ombudsman for Human Rights in Navoiy Region visited Correctional Colony No. 5 to inspect the conditions of inmate Alisher Tursunov, also known by the pseudonym Mubashshir Ahmad, according to the Ombudsman’s office.

During the visit, personal interviews were conducted with inmates, including Tursunov, and medical records were reviewed. Following the monitoring, Tursunov stated that he receives regular medical care, comprehensive check-ups are carried out in accordance with regulations, and his health has changed only slightly due to pre-existing conditions.

Tursunov reported that he participates in work activities voluntarily, performing kitchen duties, is not required to work overtime, and that labor conditions meet occupational safety standards. According to him, food and living conditions also comply with established norms, and he has no complaints.

Representatives of the Ombudsman emphasized that the monitoring aims to ensure the rights of inmates are respected and to regularly verify the conditions of detention in correctional facilities in the region. During previous monitoring visits in November and December 2025, Tursunov also submitted no complaints.

For context, on October 8, the Uchtepa District Criminal Court concluded the case against Alisher Tursunov. He was found guilty of inciting national, racial, ethnic, or religious enmity, producing, possessing, and distributing materials posing a threat to public safety, and illegally producing, possessing, importing, and distributing religious materials.

Considering mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced Tursunov to two and a half years of imprisonment in a general-regime colony.

Additionally, the court ordered the blocking of pages and channels under the names Mubaşşir Ahmad and Azon Global on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and on the video hosting platform YouTube.
