“Olima”: Uzbekistan to Launch a New Platform for Women in Science
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Agency for Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan is planning to establish the Olima Club, a new platform aimed at supporting women working in science and innovation, strengthening cooperation between established scholars and young researchers, developing mentorship systems, promoting best practices, and encouraging innovative ideas and initiatives.
On 11 February, to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Agency hosted a roundtable discussion titled “The Voice of Women in Science.”
The event brought together scientists, early-career researchers, startup founders, female students, as well as heads of press services from several ministries and government agencies.
During the meeting, held in an open dialogue format, participants discussed ways to expand women’s participation in scientific activities, ensure the effective use of existing grants and programs, align research with pressing contemporary challenges, and promote developments and inventions created by women scientists.
Participants put forward proposals to strengthen cooperation among women in science, expand platforms for sharing experience, analyze social factors that hinder scientific activity, and identify ways to overcome these barriers.
The importance of enhancing the international visibility and reputation of projects implemented by Uzbek scientists was also emphasized.
As a result of the discussions, an initiative was proposed to establish the Olima Club under the Agency for Innovative Development.
The club is expected to become an effective platform for supporting women in science and innovation, fostering collaboration between researchers and young scientists, introducing mentorship practices, and promoting promising scientific ideas.
According to experts, the Olima Club could not only bring together active women in the scientific community but also serve as an important venue for unlocking and realizing the scientific potential of women in society.
