Nurse Sentenced to Prison for Attempting to Sell a Child Twice

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Criminal Court of the Kasansky District has sentenced a nurse who attempted to sell a child twice, the Millar TV channel reported.

According to the investigation, in 2023, a 32-year-old employee of the Kasansky District Medical Association clinic colluded with the mother of a three-year-old girl and sold the child to another woman for 19.7 million soums.

In addition, the nurse promised to assist in obtaining a birth certificate and received 2 million soums for this service.

Two years later, she attempted to sell the same girl again — this time for US$15,000, in collusion with a 60-year-old man. The attempt was thwarted by law enforcement authorities.

The court found the woman guilty under Article 135, Part 3(a) (human trafficking) and Article 168, Part 2(b) (fraud by prior conspiracy of a group of persons) of the Criminal Code.

The defendant was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment and a fine of 30 sizes of basic estimated value  (12.63 million soums). Her accomplice received a three-year restriction of freedom with a prohibition on leaving his residence and an identical fine.

The child, victim of the crime, is currently being raised in the Kitab District orphanage.
