Number of health facilities with high speed Internet access to increase in 2020-2021

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 February 2020, at the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khorezmi, a committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on budget and economic reforms organized a round table on the topic “Economic reforms and the digital economy: trends and prospects for interaction and development”.

The participants in the round table were members of the Committee, scientific economists, the faculty of the university, as well as representatives of the media.

It was noted that one of the highest priorities identified in the Address of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Oliy Majlis for the next 5 years is an active transition to the digital economy. To this end, 2020 has been declared the "Year of the Development of Science, Education and the Digital Economy." In 2020-2021, an increase is planned in the number of healthcare institutions, preschool and school education provided with high-speed Internet access from 7 thousand to 12 thousand and the adoption of the Digital Uzbekistan - 2030 program.

The digital economy is an activity in which digital data is considered the main production factor. It makes it possible to establish modern industries based on the processing of a huge amount of information, the introduction of the latest technologies, equipment and working methods.

During the round table, it was emphasized that some components of the digital economy have long been successfully introduced in the country. In particular, the use of electronic signatures was introduced, taking into account the complete transfer of documents and communications to digital means, and communication with government bodies is transferred to a digital platform.

Speakers focused on the trends and prospects of the digital economy. It was noted that today in most cases, digital technology is widely used in science and the private sector. Based on this, attention is drawn to the fact that the support in our country of innovative projects and ICT companies in these areas is one of the main tasks facing the state. In this regard, the participants in the round table highlighted some aspects of improving the relevant legislative framework.

It was noted that the effectiveness of the digital economy in the country is manifested in such indicators as the level of development of modern ICT, the improvement of the electronic system of public services, the introduction of new mechanisms for dialogue between government bodies and the population.

Thanks to this, the share of the shadow economy in GDP is reduced, the level of corruption is reduced, and the process of transition to the cashless payment system is accelerated. The economy becomes transparent, an educational and labor system is being formed that meets the requirements of modern technology. It was emphasized that all this ultimately serves the development of the country, increasing the welfare of the life of the people.

On the issues considered during the event, relevant recommendations were given.
