New International Airport for 20 Million Passengers to Open in Tashkent Region by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed plans for the construction of a new international airport in the Tashkent region, scheduled to be commissioned by 2030.

With the country’s economy growing and the pace of life accelerating, the demand for modern transport infrastructure is increasing sharply. Forecasts indicate that by 2030, passenger traffic through the capital will reach 15 million people.

The existing airport is already struggling to cope with the growing workload and, being located within the city, has no capacity for expansion. Consequently, a decision has been made to build a new airport outside the capital.

At present, proposals from foreign companies are being studied within the framework of a public–private partnership.

During the discussions, the head of state emphasized the need for careful development of these strategically important infrastructure projects and for their swift practical implementation. He noted that within the framework of ongoing reforms, particular attention is being paid to the development of the transport system, with many large-scale projects being implemented under his direct instruction. One of the priorities is to transform Tashkent’s airport into a modern aviation hub that meets international standards.

Given these factors, the construction of a new airport has become a pressing necessity. The President instructed that the project be implemented in compliance with global standards and with the involvement of leading international companies.

The current airport, located close to the city center, creates traffic congestion, while its runways and dense surrounding development restrict opportunities for further expansion and maneuvering of aircraft.

At the initial stage, the new airport will be able to handle up to 20 million passengers annually, accommodate 169 aircraft simultaneously, and operate more than 40 takeoffs and landings per hour. The facility will be fully digitalized and built with the latest technologies.
